Book ‘Intersectional Discrimination of Women and Girls with Disabilities and Means of their Empowerment’

The implementation of LAWGEM project has led to the publication of books of great importance not only for teaching staff, but also for legal practitioners, students, as well as anyone else interested in acquiring a better understanding of contemporary gender competent legal questions.

This also relates to the book Intersectional Discrimination of Women and Girls with Disabilities and Means of their Empowerment (Ljubinka Kovačević, Dragica Vujadinović, Marco Evola /eds/, University of Belgrade Faculty of Law, Belgrade, 2022, XLI + 955 pages).

A little over three decades ago, Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw introduced the concept of intersectionality into legal theory, providing a better understanding of the cumulative effect of several different grounds of discrimination and the legal problems that arise thereof. This also relates to the books published by Springer, in the frame of book series ‘Gender Perspectives in Law’, edited by Prof. Dr. Dragica Vujadinović and Prof. Dr. Ivana Krstić. The book series represents the added value to the LAWGEM project and which discusses all-encompassing gender-competent legal questions. Having a gender-competent approach is required when considering the highest values and normative standards of modern international, European, and national law. Raising awareness about gender equality issues means investing in the creation, interpretation, and implementation of legislation that is more fair, just, and equitable and will also contribute to a comprehensive understanding of social reality, as well as to gender-competent political, legal and economic decision-making and public policies… Continued

Textbook ‘Gender-Competent Legal Education’

One of the main intellectual outputs of the LAWGEM project is the publication of textbook Gender-Competent Legal Education edited by Dragica Vujadinovic, Mareike Fröhlich and Thomas Giegerich (Springer, Cham, XIII + 709 pages). It presents a result of joint work of authors from five European universities –LUMSA University (Italy), Department of Law, Universidad de Cadiz (Spain), Orebro University, School of Law, Psychology and Social Work (Sweden), Saarlandes University, Europa-Institut (Germany), and University of Belgrade Faculty of Law (Serbia). Textbook reflects all relevant fields of legal education of the curriculum for the master’s study program “Law and Gender”. This open access textbook provides an overview of gender issues in all areas of law, including sociological, historical and methodological issues.

Written for students and teachers around the globe, it is intended to provide both a general overview and in-depth knowledge in the individual areas of law. Relevant court decisions and case studies are supplied throughout the book..Continued
